Terry is glad that she's real and it took some time for him to actually believe it because... a talking, bipedal, clothed cat was something he didn't expect despite being pretty fucking strange himself. Mae being real reinforced the idea that maybe he's not as crazy as he thought he was and Mae doesn't really seem to care about the questionable/reckless shit he does--even being on board with him sometimes--so he feels a sense of freedom when he's with Mae. He likes how casual she is too. Maybe they should just speak english amongst themselves because he feels like he hasn't had a full conversation in english since forever. She's also his drinking buddy now. His partner-in-crime.
